Day Wise Itinerary
Day 1: Bagdogra/NJP –Darjeeling (90 kms/Approx. 3 hours Drive) Arrive at Bagdogra Airport / NJP Railway station and board your vehicle. Later proceed to Darjeeling. DARJEELING: Standing high in the Himalayas at an altitude of 2134m, 'Dorje Ling', or place of the Thunderbolt, offers breathtaking views of snow-capped mountain peaks, with the Kanchendzonga rising higher than all the others. Often referred to as the "Queen of the Hills", it remains just as alluring with its tiny waterfalls, little villages and a narrow gauge railway track. Surrounded by World Famous Tea Gardens and snow capped mountains, Darjeeling remains one of the most exotic destinations. Graeme Westlake in his book 'An introduction to hill stations on India' refers to Darjeeling as having "A view Scarcely Unrivalled on Earth ''. Overnight at the hotel. Day 2: Darjeeling (As per the avaibility of Token/Permit) Early morning visit Tiger Hill to see a beautiful sunrise and Himalayan Range like Kanchandzonga, Mount Everest etc. One can see the horizon changing colors just before sunrise and then the entire Himalayan range turns golden. It is truly a majestic sight and Ghoom Monastery which is oldest Monastery in the area which was built in 1875 and one can see the image of Mythey Buddha 15ft. height on the way back from Tiger Hill. Later I returned back to Hotel for Breakfast. Post breakfast, Proceed for a city tour visiting Himalayan Mountaineering Institute(closed on Thursday) which was started by Tenzing Norgay after he climbed Mt. Everest, Zoological Park(closed on Thursday), Tibetan Refugee Centre(closed on Sunday), Tenzing Rock, Gombu Rock and Tea Estate(from outside). Overnight at the hotel. Day 3: Darjeeling – Pelling Breakfast at the hotel and drive to Pelling. PELLING : Located at a distance of 120 kms from Gangtok Pelling is another serene, mountain village which lies in the western districts of Sikkim. This village is situated at an altitude of 2000 mts(approx) and commands a spectacular view of Mt.Kanchenjunga. Overnight at the hotel. Day 4: Pelling Half Day Local – Gangtok 127 kms 5 hours approx. Breakfast at the hotel then proceed for a city tour visiting Pemayangtse Monastery, Rabtense Ruins,Skywalk.On arrival check in to the hotel .Overnight stay at Gangtok. GANGTOK: At an altitude of 1750m, Gangtok became the state capital in the mid 19th century and has undergone rapid development since then. The downtown area is dominated by huge government buildings decorated with traditional Buddhist symbols. Gangtok is also a resting ground for people traveling to North Sikkim. Surrounded by Monasteries and Orchids, Gangtok is truly a travellers delight. Overnight at the hotel. Day 5: Gangtok Today post Breakfast, Proceed for a full day excursion to Changu Lake which is 35 Kms from Gangtok at an altitude of 12,400 feet. The lake derives its waters from melting snow off the surrounding mountains. Legends say that lamas could forecast the future by studying the color of the lake's waters. We will also visit Baba mandir. Baba Mandir is dedicated to Baba Harbhajan Singh and only Indian nationals are allowed to visit this temple. Overnight at the Hotel. Note: Nathula Pass is subject to availability of Permits and Weather & Road Condition which will cost Rs. 5500/- approx Per Car on Direct Payment basis. And it is closed on Monday & Tuesday. and it will be clubbing / sharing basis on season time as No .of vehicle permit is restricted . Day 6: Gangtok to Lachen : After an early breakfast we will proceed to Lachen. The route meanders through small villages with valleys upto forest grove of Kabi Langchuk. Shinghik comes next with its promises of one of the most glorious views of Kanchenjunga. Situated at an altitude of over 4000ft, Singhik offers a desired break to the travelers on the way to Lachen . We will have our lunch on the way. Visit Chungthang- the confluence of Lachen Chu and Lachun Chu (river) and Vimala falls water falls on your way to Lachen.Lachen is also a base for the popular Green Lake trek. Day 7: Early morning drive to Thangu Village (4100m / 13450ft), a remote high altitude village of Tibetan Nomads and also proceed further to Chopta Valley (4000m / 13124ft) to get some breathtaking views of alpine valleys of frozen rivers. From Chopta Valley drive for another 30kms in 1.5hr to Gurudongmar Lake (5225m / 17143ft) close to Tibet Border, the one of the highest and biggest freshwater lakes in Sikkim. Day 8: Early morning drive to Yumthang Valley, an alpine flower valley in North Sikkim. Enjoy the scenic landscape and hot Spring and drive further for 30 kms to Yumesamdong(Zero Point) (4725m / 15503ft) or Zero Point close to Tibet Border, one of the highest motorable roads in Sikkim Full day excursion to Yumthang Valley. The valley is covered with snow during January to March & with rhododendrons during April & May. En route visit Sulphur Hot Spring having medicinal values. Lunch at a hotel in Lachung. After lunch, visit the Handicraft Center & Lachung Monastery. Proceed to Gangtok Note: Zero Point & Katao will cost Rs. 4500 - 5500/- Extra Per Car subject to availability of Permits. Day 9: Gangtok – Bagdogra/NJP Breakfast at the hotel and drive to Bagdogra/NJP in time for flight/train to onward destination. Depending on the situation further relaxations on the same may be granted by the authorities but we will get an update on the same closer to the date of travel only which we will update you accordingly.
